Siarter Iaith

Welcome to our webpage about the Siarter Iaith. The Siarter Iaith is to provide a framework to be used in schools to promote and increase the use of Welsh by pupils. Its aim is to promote a strong Welsh ethos and offer a range of exciting and enriching activities that inspire pupils to enjoy learning Welsh. Here at Llanidloes, the Criw Cymraeg play an essential role in leading the Siarter Iaith, with help from the school community, including staff, parents, governors, and the wider community. This programme will help with the government’s aim to reach one million Welsh speakers by 2050!

Here are some of the benefits of speaking/learning Welsh:

We are currently working towards our Bronze Award. Here are the main things that we have done:

1. Form a Criw Cymraeg with elected pupils from KS3 form groups and create an action plan for the academic year.
2. Produce fortnightly tutor challenges focused on Welsh culture and the Welsh language. A prize was awarded to a pupil from each tutor group at the end of the Christmas term!
3. Create a Welsh music playlist to be used during lesson times/tutor time.
4. Run a weekly club where pupils are invited to play Welsh board games, watch S4C, have some help with their homework and practice their Welsh.
5. The Criw Cymraeg completed a questionnaire assessing the presence of Welsh on the corridors. Pupils then created Welsh medium posters to coincide with the English posters.
6. Teaming up with departments to create bilingual terminology posters for each AolE.
7. Much, much more!

1. Ffurfio Criw Cymraeg gyda disgyblion etholedig o grwpiau dosbarth CA3 a chreu cynllun gweithredu ar gyfer y flwyddyn academaidd.
2. Cynhyrchu heriau tiwtor bob pythefnos sy’n canolbwyntio ar ddiwylliant Cymru a’r iaith Gymraeg. Rhoddwyd gwobr i ddisgybl o bob grŵp tiwtor ar ddiwedd tymor y Nadolig!
3. Creu rhestr ganeuon Gymraeg i’w defnyddio yn ystod amseroedd gwersi/tiwtor.
4. Cynhelir clwb wythnosol lle gwahoddir disgyblion i chwarae gemau bwrdd Cymraeg, gwylio S4C, cael rhywfaint o help gyda’u gwaith cartref ac ymarfer eu Cymraeg.
5. Cwblhaodd y Criw Cymraeg holiadur yn asesu presenoldeb y Gymraeg ar y coridorau. Yna creodd y disgyblion bosteri cyfrwng Cymraeg i gyd-fynd â’r posteri Saesneg.
6. Cydweithio ag adrannau i greu posteri terminoleg dwyieithog ar gyfer pob AolE.
