Year 11 GCSE Engineering students from Llanidloes High School attended the STEM Cymru EESW Big Bang Event at the Wales Rally GB ‘Rally Village Deeside on Friday 5th October. The event was sponsored by Nidec – Control Techniques, of Newtown, who have close relationships with the school. Pupils spent the day engaging in engineering workshops, competitions and got to discuss career opportunities with some of the UKs biggest Engineering employers, Including, Airbus, The RAF, Toyota and many more. Just after lunch they were treated to the spectacle of the noisy arrival of the Worlds top Rally Crews, pulling in to service their vehicles before speeding off to the Hills of North Wales for the next stage.
Llanidloes Students finished the day by topping the leader boards in 3 of the main engineering competions, beating many older pupils from teams, schools and colleges across the UK.
